Downturn could be a lethal for children

There could be between 200,000 and 400,000 child deaths because of the economic downturn, according to the General Secretary of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Margaret Chan.

This claim is being considered entirely viable because in times of crisis health will take a back a seat in many people’s lives it at this point when things can go wrong, short cuts and cut backs are said to be the main cause for these claims.

In past recessions, it has been found that these changes affect two groups, women and children. It turns out that they are the most vulnerable during these times and therefore should a high priority when it comes to care.

This happens because when people are under financial pressure they tend to cut back on health care and the quality of food.
