Gold coins found in Suffolk

It could be one of biggest finds ever of Iron Age gold coins and they were found in field Suffolk. The haul consisted of around 824 gold coins which are known as Staters, were uncovered by an unnamed man using a metal detector.

The man contacted the archaeological service at Suffolk county hall who dispatched Jude Plouviez who was amazed to find the coins, which date back to around 20 BC, in old biscuit tin.

In their day these amount of coins would have been worth around £750,000 in modern money, proving that whoever left the coins was a very important and wealthy person.

The find will now be valued and as the coins weigh in at around five grams each, once this has been done then there will be a treasure trove inquest. This is where the person who found the coins will find out how much they will be getting as a reward.
