Ancient forests in the UK lost
Sometimes we get side tracked when we watch the news stories where places like the Amazon rainforests being destroyed to make way for other crops and building works, we see this as a serious threat to the world’s eco system, but this is happening in the UK too.
It seems that even here in the UK ancient woodlands that have been around for over four hundred years are in fact disappearing at a faster rate than the South American rainforests.
The shocking truth is that there are currently around six hundred of these ancient woodlands under threat, this is happening simply to make way for housing, roads, airports and even electric pylons.
Naturally as the country grows, more provision has to be made for the smooth running of the delicate systems that we rely on to keep everything going. Something has to give and in this case, it is the countryside, which is suffering. But at what cost?
